The
final rounds of the first annual Armando Ghitalla
International Trumpet Classic took place in Pittsfield
Massachusetts from September 28 through October 1 2006.
There were 4 finalists competing for the $7500 prize.
The finalists were Ethan Bensdorf, Adam Bhatia, Gareth
Flowers and Kevin Gebo. Rolf Smedvig, Marc Reese and Jon
Nelson adjudicated the final rounds.
Each competitor played their chosen repertoire as well
as the first movement of the Hummel Concerto with the
Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, Ronald Feldman, conductor.
After this round Ethan Bensdorf and Adam Bhatia were
advanced to the final round in which they performed the
Hummel. In what was a very difficult decision Ethan
Bensdorf was named the unanimous winner of the
competition.
Ethan received $7500 and performed the Hummel Concerto
with the United States Coast Guard Band the following
day. He will also return to the Berkshires to perform
with the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra as soloist and
alongside Rolf Smedvig on the Vivaldi Concerto for two
trumpets. All of the finalists are to be congratulated
on their extremely high level of playing throughout the
competition. |
